Combat: the basics
Each combat is a sequence of turns. On your turn you get 3 Energy and draw 5 cards. Play cards by spending Energy; when you don’t want to or can’t play any more, end your turn. Cards left in your hand go to the discard pile.
Intents
Above each Vexro an icon shows what it will do on its turn:
| Icon | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Sword + number | Attack (the number already accounts for Resonance, Exposed and Disoriented) |
| Shield | It will defend itself or protect an ally |
| Up arrow | It will buff itself |
| Down arrow | It will weaken you (statuses, bad cards, removing your Shield) |
| Eye | Void Touch: generates Corruption |
| Question mark | It will enter Phase |
| Plus sign | It will summon reinforcements |
Planning around intents is the heart of the game. But careful: from the Whispers stage of Corruption onward, some intents lie.
Shield
Shield absorbs damage and resets at the start of your turn. Stockpiling it is pointless: defend what you need and use the rest to attack.
Integrity
Integrity is the health you and your Vytar share. It starts at 70 and doesn’t recover between combats: only Nurseries, events, artifacts and some cards heal it. If it hits 0, the incursion ends.
